Generally, it’s not recommended to use aluminum trays in the microwave. Microwaves heat food by sending microwaves through it. This can cause aluminum trays to spark, especially if they have wrinkles or folds. At high temperatures, aluminum trays may also release harmful substances. This can be dangerous to your health.
However, there are some exceptions. Certain aluminum trays, like the smoothwall trays from Alchn, are made for microwaves. These trays have a special epoxy coating. It keeps the food from touching the aluminum and prevents sparking. When using these trays, always follow the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) guidelines
Despite the exceptions, it’s usually best to use containers made for microwaves. Ceramic and glass are safer choices. These materials work well in microwaves and lower the risk of hazards.
